Local Ecomomy: It's been the lead story on the nightly news for weeks now. What effects have you seen here in The Palisades of the nation's financial meltdown? Are you optimistic about the future or not? What do Palisadian's think about the state of our economy? Please chime in...

While I am optimistic about our new President and the new administration, I am not greatly optimistic. Our country has driven itself into an enormous problem and it will take years to correct the mistakes and mis-management of our nation as a result of arrogance and mis-management that has take place this past 8 years. God bless America, but dig in your heels...it's going to be a bumpy ride.
Just try to support our merchants whenever possible. Our properties will go down severly without a village nearby. Why would you want to buy a house where the village looks like a ghost town.
Here's something that can go into those empty stores in the Village--a food bank. I'm not kidding. There are some of us who have lived here in the Palisades for 10 years who now have to resort to hand-outs. Like the banner read shortly after Katrina in all those post disaster stories--"No, We're Not Okay. We're Desperate." Some of us aren't ok here either in this gorgeous Camelot by the sea.
I own a business in the Palisades. I am always amazed at people that will drive miles and miles away to save a couple bucks. How much are u really saving when you figure in time, gas and even parking costs (sometimes). Without stores in the Palisades, you will have no choice but to go into Santa Monica just to get milk. Is that what you want? Give your local merchants a try. There are some very hard working people in these stores just trying to make a living while performing a service
I know many of you are excited about our new president, but blaming the economic ills that affect the entire world on Bush's policies is ludicrous. In fact, many problems stemmed back from Clinton's 8 years in office, and before that. Personally, I am frightened of the direction this new admin is going in - socialistic and reducing our defenses in a time when terrorists & nuclear states are getting ready to attack us again. But will you blame that on Bush as well?
As for shopping here in the palisades, I do try to support the local merchants. However, when we have nothing but mediocre restaurants, and young kids clothing stores & jewelry stores, but little else, why would I stay shopping here? All that ever comes in is the same - another pizza & salad place, another women's clothing store, or jewelry store. We demand change but we have little recourse but to exercise our rights by shopping elsewhere - where we can find what we actually want. The landlords of the Village have done a huge disservice to the town by only allowing "upscale" (read can afford the rent)places in that no one then frequents. Notice how some new places haven't even been able to stay? We should be angry with them for wrecking our Village, not the residents who are fortunate enough to travel throughout the city to find what they are looking for.
