Skunks in The Palisades

What's that awful smell? As if the economic meltdown and swine flu weren't enough to throw us over the edge...several Palisadians have reported recent skunk sightings/smellings around town. And if your dog comes nose-to-nose with one of these smelly critters you can expect a costly pet bathing/grooming bill.

If you've had encounters with the local Pali Skunks or have advice on how to reduce your chances of having them smell-up your pets or property, please chime in.

a skunk came through our dog door and sprayed my dog at 145am the other night. My house still smells and I have tried to disinfect with a mixture of Baking soda, vinegar and dish soap. It costs $78 to have a dog bath with special skunk removal agents in it. It has been 3 days and it still stinks. I was told by the groomers that they have gotten way more skunk bath requests in the last month than ever before.

Our Tibetan Terrier went out yesterday morning at 6:30 and started madly barking - returned quickly to the house. That skunk smell soon wafted into and around the house. Luckily she wasn't skunked - this time. Last fall she "played" with a baby skunk and took it right in the face.. 3 de-skunking baths later she still smells when her face gets wet.

I have seen several skunks around Bestor and Via De La Paz over the past few weeks. I hope there isn't a skunk lady that replaced the rat ladies.

The skunk lady lives on my street, Jacon Way, and, if she's reading this, we would really appreciate it if she would stop feeding the skunks!

Our dog got "skunked" last Sun. in our backyard and went directly into the house, it was awful. We used a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap, that we found online. It worked, but now our dog has highlights! I'm worried it will happen again.
